Opti Thistle

The bioflavonoid complex found in milk thistle seeds, silymarin has found widespread use for over 2,000 years for carrying off bile and supporting the liver, spleen and kidneys. Modern research has found the action of this bioflavonoid enhances liver cell protection in three ways:

1. Choleretic— provides a cleansing action within the liver; 2. Powerful antioxidant activity adding to cellular protection and resisting free radicals; and 3. Overall promotion of healthy liver cells.

The active compound in Opti-Thistle is known as silymarin. This substance, which actually consists of a group of compounds called flavonolignands, helps repair liver cells damaged by alcohol and other toxic substances. Silymarin also keeps new liver cells from being destroyed by these same substances, reduces inflammation (important for people with liver inflammation or hepatitis), and has potent antioxidant effects.

Preliminary laboratory studies suggest that silymarin may have anti-cancer effects due to its strong antioxidant properties. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of human prostate, breast, and cervical cancer cells in vitro.
